The estate’s history dates back to 1187, with the original basilica-style chapel evolving over the centuries into a fully functioning church by 1260.
Over time, the church underwent numerous architectural transformations, blending medieval and Renaissance styles. A bell tower was added in the late 1300s, and the church was significantly enlarged and reconfigured to its present Latin-cross plan and Renaissance detailing in the 1400s.
The earliest residence for the parish priest was alos built in the 1400s. It consisted of a modest kitchen/sitting room on the ground floor (the present kitchen), with a narrow stairway leading to a corridor and two bedrooms on the first floor. A dovecote was present above, accessible only by ladder. The residence was modified over the centuries, including a substantial expansion in the 1700s, with the introduction of decorative details, including a new fireplace and frescos, in the 1780s.
Despite wartime damage in 1944, the church was carefully restored, and in 2017, it was deconsecrated. In 2018, the complex was designated a historic monument, preserving its cultural significance.
